Sarah Werner
Sarah Werner is a Design Assistant at the Natural Learning Initiative. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Savannah College of Art and Design, and a Master of Landscape Architecture from North Carolina State University. Sarah was a recipient of the 2011 ASLA Award of Excellence in Communications for her contributions to the SHIFT: infrastructure publication.
Sarah worked as a designer for a small firm in Annapolis, MD before entering graduate school at NC State in 2008, driven by a lifelong passion for horticulture and a desire to create meaningful, sustainable design interventions. Sarah is particularly interested in ways to increase environmental literacy through design and outdoor play in order to encourage stewardship of the natural world by future generations. Some of her work at the NLI includes behavior mapping at preschool outdoor learning environments, research on nutritional landscapes and perennial edibles, and ways to manage and learn from the living landscape.
