Pathways for Play featured at the NRPA Congress and Exposition
Pathways for Play intentionally integrates play into shared use community pathways to provide opportunitites for "playing along the way", encouraging use by children and families. NLI, along with Playcore, American Trails, and the City of Atlanta Parks Department, explored the linear trail at the South Bend Park National Demonstration Site in Atlanta, GA at the NRPA Congress and Exposition.
Playcore offers a best practice guidebook, Pathways for Play, on this topic, which was developed in partnership with NLI and American Trails. This guidebook focuses on extending play value, familiy engagement, and learning. Incorporate best practice design principles when asessing pathway potential for infusing play and learn some critical considerations for planning "play pockets".
Robin Moore, Director, NLI; Pam Gluck, Executive Director, American Trails; Lisa Moore, Vice-President Corporate Strategic Services, PlayCore; and Paul Taylor, City of Atlanta, Director of Park Design based their off site workshop at the NRPA Congress on the best practices outlined in the guidebook.
