Julie Murphy is a Design Assistant at the Natural Learning Initiative. She began work at the NLI as a student in 2007, and has since received a Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture from NCSU in May 2010. She has stayed at the NLI to learn more and be a part of the exciting work transforming children's outdoor environments for the generations to come.
Some of Julie's areas of interest include community and family centered design, urban design, sustainable design and development, and urban community gardening. Julie particularly enjoys the challenge of designing outdoor environments that spark curiosity and a love for nature in the children who use them. Her experience working with children in a variety of capacities, (including as a summer camp counselor), her love for experiencing the beauty of the natural world, and her passion for design all perfectly suit her for the exciting variety of projects she is a part of at the NLI. Recently, Julie was involved in the design of the outdoor envrionment for over 20 childcare centers in North Carolina through the POD project.
