ASLA Annual Meeting & Expo San Diego, CA
Robin Moore participated as a featured speaker in Designing Community Recreation Spaces for Health and Well Being: Applying the Research Evidence, an education session offered by the ASLA October 30, 2011. Jack Nasar of Ohio State Univrsity, Lois Brink of the University of Colorado, Philip Troped of Purdue University joined Robin to share the current scientific evidence supporting healthy-lifestyle landscape design. When designing welcoming urban parks, schoolyards, trails, and greenways, landscape architects are leaders in enhancing community health. By applying the Sustainable Sites Initiative in evidence-based design, landscape architects reassert their value as preventive health facilitiaters.
The ASLA is furthering this field through the Professional Practice Network, Children's Outdoor Environments. This network offers solutions and facilitates communication for landscape professionals with an interest in helping to connect children and families to the natural enviornment, whether that environment is in an urban zone or a rural childcare center.
